COO is a centre of expertise of Bankwest’s support functions which collaborates with the business to delivery consistency across customer service, support, delivery, performance, ways of working, strategy and risk.

The EM Risk and Control Advisory and Delivery (COO), reports directly into the Chief Operating Officer. Overall you will be:

  • Accountable for the line 1 risk team that supports Bankwest and will be responsible for leading the front-line distribution (Business and Retail Bank- Branches and Customer Service Centre) and Home Buying, Everyday Banking, Chief Customer Office, Chief Operating Office- consisting of approximately 40 risk professionals. For context previously we had to EM of Risk this role encompasses all BW portfolios.
  • Co-design team op model including operating rhythm and ways of working for the line 1 risk function to set team up for success and leverage synergies.
  • The role will play an active role on BWLT committee forums as required.
  • Delivery and support of better risk outcomes
  • Our product and tech teams work together in squads in the above teams so manages and supports project delivery risk from a tech/product/distribution perspective
Your Responsibilities Would Also Include
  • Establish, lead and hold overall accountability and oversight to ensure the business has appropriately managed its risk and control environment.
  • Overall accountability for driving a proactive risk and control culture, motivate and inspire a team of risk and control professionals.
  • Provide oversight and expert advice to senior leaders for control improvement activities . Review and provide expert guidance to ensure effective design of controls for all new and changing processes.
  • Engage with business leaders and Line 2 to determine and recommend optimal course of action to remediate any significant data integrity issues within the BU.
  • Overall accountability for testing the design and operating effectiveness of the Controls Assurance Program (CAP) by regularly ensuring that key operational risks are being appropriately mitigated, including oversight of test scripts.
  • Consult on and provide expert input to risk and controls during the strategic planning process and drive risk thinking through strong challenge and collaboration with divisional leadership.
  • Accountable for establishing and delivering risk management governance and reporting with associated insights and recommendations.
  • Champion and drive continuous improvement of the Business Control Environment through the use of insights and reporting.
  • Overall accountability for the design and delivery of a change management approach to ensure the achievement of transformation objectives within the BU.
  • Lead and build capability of a team of Controls Office generalists to ensure all relevant functions are covered, from Control Enablement, Assurance, Strategy Governance and Reporting.

  • Understanding of operational risk methodology and control awareness within a financial services environment.
  • Sound knowledge of the Group Operational and Compliance Risk Management Frameworks.
  • Ability to assess inherent risks and design mitigating controls.
  • Effective communication and negotiating skills with a highly developed customer service focus.
  • Ability to work and deliver in a high-pressure and changing environment.
  • Strong sense of time management, urgency with a focus on outcomes.
  • Excellent analytical, planning, organising, evaluation and problem solving skills.
  • Capable of sourcing relevant information from a large network of contacts.
  • Previous team management experience, of mid-size (50 +) reports
