The Purpose Of This Position Is To

As the Director of Nursing you are responsible for providing leadership and direction to the nursing team and for the development, implementation and documentation of evidence based best nursing practice for patients and their carers.

What You’ll Do
  • Provide overall nursing leadership and direction to nursing staff at Genesis Care
  • Liaise professionally with clinical and management structures at Genesis Care regarding nursing issues
  • Actively participate in and support the design of nursing services at Genesis Care
  • Identify opportunities that may progress the development of innovative models of care for nursing services that place the patient at the centre of Genesis Care
  • Research and implement best practice models of work performance and use benchmarking to evaluate ongoing nursing performance across Genesis Care
  • Contribute to changes in nursing policy and standards, service direction and models of care for the nursing services * Coordinate the preparation of budgets allocated for nursing * Monitor financial performance in line with the requirements of Genesis Care.
  • Implement proactive strategies aimed at achieving agreed nursing budgets.
  • Develop, review and implement business planning for nursing services at Genesis Care in line with Strategic Plans and the Clinical Operations Business Plans
  • Manage FTE and rostering systems to achieve FTE performance targets at Genesis Care.
  • Manage and promote resource utilisation in line with Genesis Care initiatives to achieve identified activity performance targets.
  • Progress the development of individual Performance Development Plans (PDP) for nurses and ensure that a program for development is sustained in all nursing areas at Genesis Care.
  • Support the development and maintenance of appropriate accountability and communication structures within the Clinical areas of Genesis Care and the wider organisation.
  • Ensure that all complaints, grievances, disputes, and disciplinary measures are managed in accordance with the corresponding Genesis Care policy and procedures and in line with the relevant State legislative requirements.
  • Positively contribute to clinical governance across Genesis Care through the development and implementation of Policies, Guidelines and Procedures that ensure a high quality of care across the health service.
  • Oversee access to education programs, resources, and professional development activities for nursing and clinical staff, ensuring clinical staff skills are maintained at a high standard.
  • Ensure that accurate and timely information is available for patients and their carers regarding their treatment and possible side effects according to care pathways.
  • Ensure that up to date information is available to provide a service to patients regarding specific consumer health information and relevant external agencies.
  • Lead quality initiatives across the health service as directed by the Safety and Quality Committee at Genesis Care
  • Participate in the ACHS Accreditation process and ensure that systems are in place to meet all required standards for clinical services within the areas being supervised.
  • Liaise with representatives of Industrial Associations such as the Australian Nursing Federation through appropriate Staff Consultative Committees as well as on a needs basis for individual staff.
  • Attend and contribute to Genesis Care key committees as required.
  • Promote a positive image of Genesis Care across the local community, regionally and nationally.
  • Report to the General Manager of Genesis Care and other Executive Officers as required.
  • Comply with and attend mandatory training as required.
  • Undertake reasonable travel in accordance with the duties of this position.

Who You Are
  • Registered Nurse with a current practicing certificate issued by AHPRA and at least seven years of full-time nursing experience
  • A degree from a recognised tertiary institution and demonstrated successful experience at senior management level and a commitment to ongoing professional development.
  • Demonstrated successful experience in nursing management and in the analysis and resolution of nursing management and health planning issues.
  • Proven track record in meeting budget and service targets
  • Demonstrated excellent leadership, communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing a significant organisational change process within a large health service.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate, consult and negotiate effectively with staff, health professionals, the local community and health interest groups.
  • Demonstrated skills in formulating new approaches and developing comprehensive implementation and improvement strategies for nursing services.
  • Advanced knowledge and experience in providing direction in Infection Control.
  • Always displays sensitivity and diplomacy when dealing with staff and clients.
  • Provides delivery of culturally appropriate nursing care.
  • Practices in accordance with all legislation affecting professional nursing practice.
  • Participates in self-evaluation and performance management in accordance with company guidelines.
  • Is responsible for the maintenance of relevant records and statistical data collection as appropriate for the position.
  • Proficiency with computer software and proven ability to write reports.
