PRIMARY DETAIL

We are seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Outreach Support Officer to provide support in the delivery of initiatives engaging with school students, particularly in regional and remote areas, with the aim of increasing participation by students from regional and remote areas in higher education, and to support students in their transition to Macquarie University.

  • Salary Package: From $75,400 to $85,728 p.a. (HEW Level 5), plus 17% superannuation and annual leave loading.
  • Appointment Type: Full time, fixed term contract until 31 December 2023
  • Location: North Ryde, Macquarie Park

THE ROLE

Reporting to the Senior Outreach Officer, the successful candidate will:

  • Coordinate and administer the delivery of events planned by the team, including off-site and on-site campus visits from school students, parents/caregivers and community groups with a particular focus on regional and remote areas.
  • Train and supervise student mentors and casual staff in the delivery of Widening Participation programs, utilising specialist knowledge of the equity and diversity sector.
  • Monitor the impact and effectiveness of outreach activities aimed at widening participation in higher education.
  • Support the development of new procedures and programs for regional and remote outreach.
  • Liaise with and answer specialist queries from key stakeholders including students, mentors, partner schools, parents/caregivers and community groups.
  • Organise and deliver visits (on and off campus) targeted at school students, parents/carers and teachers.
  • Develop and disseminate specialised information related to equity group participation for use in internal and external media.
  • Collect, analyse, evaluate and report on issues related to the LEAP programs.
  • Comply with relevant EEO and WHS regulations.
  • Perform any other duties as required and as appropriate for this classification.

The Office of the Pro Vice-Chancellor (Programs and Pathways) develops and drives the University’s strategy for building and enhancing entry and progression pathways and, with the Pro-Vice Chancellor Learning and Teaching, leads the ongoing improvement of academic offerings at Macquarie.

The Widening Participation Unit within that portfolio works to meet the University’s commitment to the national widening participation agenda by designing and delivering initiatives that engage disadvantaged and underrepresented students with enriching educational opportunities that encourage them to realise their learning potential.

About You

  • Degree and/ or relevant work experience of at least four years working with students from equity backgrounds, preferably including those from regional and remote backgrounds.
  • Knowledge of regional and remote issues within the current Australian context.
  • Experience in developing, implementing and evaluating school and communit y engagement programs.
  • Knowledge of the Australian Higher Education sector, including pathways for entry and opportunities for students from equity groups.
  • Well-developed interpersonal and communication skills including working effectively with students from diverse backgrounds and with partner organisations.
  • Demonstrated ability to work as a part of a team.
  • A valid working with children check clearance is required for this position.

The successful candidate must also hold a valid drivers license. Confidence in handling larger vehicles (Toyota Hiace / Mercedes Sprinter) will also be desirable.
