Carer Peer Worker
Mater Mental Health Centre

The Carer Peer Worker - OPMHS (Older People's Mental Health Service) delivers support to consumers who access the mental health inpatient unit and residential aged care facilities and their families and carers. You will assist consumers, carers and families, service providers and Community Managed Organisations to develop a better understanding of the recovery framework while utilising a lived experience of caring for an older person experiencing aging and mental health issues to work towards achieving the best outcomes for consumers, their carers and families. You will also provide support to OPMHS consumers their carers and families who are residing in or transitioning into a residential aged care facility. This role will be part of the larger Peer Workforce for Hunter New England Mental Health and will report directly to the Service Manager of the Older People’s Mental Health Service.

The successful candidate will have lived experience in the areas of mental health or Dementia and the Behavioural and Psychological Symptoms of Dementia and residential aged care to assist our consumers and families whom are transitioning into or living in residential aged care.

An eligibility list will be created for future temporary part time vacancies.

To be eligible for employment in these roles you must be: an Australian Citizen, or a permanent resident of Australia, or a New Zealand citizen with a current New Zealand Passport, or a citizen of another country with an appropriate visa that allows you to work in Australia.

If you currently hold a temporary visa that allows you to live and work in Australia you may only be offered employment in line with the conditions and expiry date of your visa.
