The University is investing in Advancement as part of its move to a more sustainable financial footing and we are now seeking applications for two Executive Directors of Development to be part of the Advancement portfolio.

Executive Director of Development (Faculties)

Executive Director of Development (Health and Medical Sciences)


Two newly created positions within the Advancement Portfolio are exciting opportunities for professionals with a track record of raising seven figure gifts to join the most successful fundraising team in Australia.

As Executive Director of Development you will drive a team of fundraising professionals and develop an income generation strategy to facilitate the University's philanthropic relationships. We are looking for senior level executives, as both roles will play a key part in the implementation of the development strategy across the Advancement team including the major gifts, planned gifts and donor relations teams.


These roles are best suited to someone with extensive senior leadership and major gifts fundraising experience who would like to move into a role focusing on long-term relationships and strategies. It is essential that the incumbent is comfortable working collaboratively with the wider Major Gifts team to identify and cultivate prospects, including being a mentor and leader and an executive leader within the team.

  • Can provide vision, leadership, and oversight to the major giving planned giving, and donor relations program at the University of Sydney
  • Is a strategic leader and has worked on senior leadership teams, who can mentor, develop, and coach the Major Gifts, Bequests and Donor Relations teams
  • has an impressive track record of achievement and meeting stretch financial targets through ambitious and complex gift proposals
  • has a sound understanding and a strong interest in medicine and health / University faculties
  • is creative, with the ability to bring together the disparate interests of a donor and match them with an opportunity that brings together disaffiliated aspects of the University
  • has demonstrated sophisticated relationship building and management skills with the ability to engage internal and external stakeholders
  • has highly developed organisational and time-management skills, including the ability to prioritise own workload, to work consistently within busy schedules and to meet deadlines, whilst maintaining a focus on a longer horizon
  • possesses excellent professional demeanour, discretion and ability to confidently engage with sophisticated philanthropists.
