There are exciting times ahead for the NSW Department of Customer Service. As part of the Department, Service NSW for Business is establishing one front door for businesses to simplify access to government, streamline processes and support businesses to achieve their goals.

We are looking for a Principal Product Manager!

Service NSW for Business is looking for a Principal Product Manager to join our growing team.

We use modern technologies and platforms and are leading the way with Lean Start-up, Agile Extreme Programming (XP), and User-Centred Design to ensure the customer is at the core of everything we do.

You will work in a highly collaborative, cross-disciplinary team with another Product Manager, Designers, Content Designers and Engineers. Our small, focused teams consistently achieve great results by listening to customer needs and iteratively and continuously shipping products. As a Product Manager you will be involved in the whole product lifecycle from customer research, problem prioritisation, ideation, backlog management to running showcases.

We’re passionate about work-life balance, with a flexible working environment, work-from-home arrangements and a leadership team who appreciate the balancing act.

Your responsibilities include:

  • Ask the right questions, craft solutions and deliver validated digital products to our users

  • Act as an ambassador for your team to all stakeholders and proactively communicate the purpose and goals of your product as well as our ways of working

  • Bridge business goals, user needs and technical feasibility as you help design and ship products

  • Facilitate effective communication and decision-making

  • Work with your squad to discern what needs to be tested and how to test it

  • Conduct interviews with stakeholders and end-users and synthesize insights into actionable next steps

  • Create a backlog, write user stories, and manage releases

  • Proactively seek to unify our customers’ experience across the product offering by engaging with other product teams

  • You're flexible to take on people management responsibilities

Who would love this role:

  • Someone who enjoys working in a highly collaborative environment. Our balanced product squads include a product manager, designer, engineers and other roles - and pairing across these disciplines leads to incredible results

  • Someone who enjoys being a leader and an influencer. In this role, you will work with your product squad, the wider Service NSW for Business teams and our partner agencies to deliver software collaboratively

  • Someone who brings a balanced, holistic and flexible mindset to product development. We share the overall success of the product within our squad

  • Someone who is comfortable with ambiguity. We work in an iterative and incremental way, balancing many different inputs and constantly making trade-offs. This requires us to be comfortable moving forward with imperfect information

  • Someone who can't get enough of product and learning

On your first day, you’ll have:

  • Product Management experience working in a lean startup or lean enterprise environment and successfully shipped digital products with great customer experience and journeys

  • Strong stakeholder management skills – proven ability to establish relationships and lead discussions with various partners and executives

  • Experience creating a compelling product vision and using data and analytics to find trends and patterns

  • Demonstrated bias towards action

  • Ability to break down complex problems into actionable steps

  • Experience or bias towards leading from within a product team

  • You have been responsible for and contributed to more than just product development

  • Ability to create and maintain the right feedback loops with customers, stakeholders and the wider business

  • Experience in leading others through projects, ways of working and career development activities

To Apply: Provide a cover letter and resume that details your experience and how you meet the capabilities of the role. Please note that your employment at Service NSW is subject to a satisfactory national criminal record check.

Please note: Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis, applications may close early or extend.
