St Hilda’s School is owned by the Diocese of Brisbane and the School Council is appointed by the Archbishop in Council. The major functions of the School Council are the appointment of the School Principal, the fixing of the annual budget and the fixing of school policy. The Principal, in the role of Chief Executive Officer is responsible for the day-to-day running of the School. All staff are responsible for carrying out their duties.

Head of Learning Enhancement

Full Time, 5 year tenure

The School is seeking a dynamic and experienced educator to fill the important position of Head of Faculty - Learning Enhancement. The Head of Learning Enhancement is responsible for the leadership, management and administration of the Learning Enhancement Program across Middle Senior School. The current learning enhancement model provides for both an in-class support and withdrawal program.

Position Purpose

The Head of Faculty will have oversight of students with learning difficulties and students requiring adjustment to their educational programs and be responsible for the management of the learning enhancement staff team in providing appropriate and effective support to students. This role requires the candidate to teach Learning Enhancement classes in Years 7-10 and support and develop the Learning Enhancement Teachers and Teaching Support Staff.

The Head of Learning Enhancement is required to develop, support and provide advice to teachers to ensure effective curriculum differentiation occurs and to facilitate the delivery of all learning enhancement programs both in and out of the classroom environments. A visionary approach to learning enhancement is required with a demonstrated interest in current and future teaching and learning initiatives.

The successful candidate’s key areas of responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

Writing Individual Education Plans (IEP’s) and support plans for students
Supporting teachers in the implementation of IEP’s for specific students
Working with students on alternative pathways
Mentoring staff on how best to support the needs of students
Possessing extensive understanding and knowledge of NCCD and AARA
Working collaboratively and building relationships with students, staff and parents.

Skills and Abilities

Demonstrate an ability to motivate, support and lead staff to be agile through change
Excellent interpersonal skills and be able to communicate sensitively and confidentially with parents, students and other staff
Ability to work independently but also part of a collaborative, creative team with a passion for enabling girls to take control of their learning and reach their potential
Knowledge of contemporary curriculum issues in Special Needs education and help support the development of best practice in pedagogy for all teacher across the School
Demonstrate exceptional pastoral care support to the staff working in Learning Enhancement
Work closely with classroom teachers, Heads of Faculty and Heads of sub-schools to facilitate clear processes of communication of student learning and behavioural needs and ensure successful transitions between year levels
Drive and foster enthusiasm in students and staff for all aspects of School life


Demonstrated qualifications and ability to teach Year 7-10 subjects (Literacy and Numeracy essential)
QCT Registered Teacher
Post-graduate qualifications in special education is an advantage
Must have relevant and demonstrated experience in similar roles
Current First Aid including Asthma and Anaphylaxis and Mental Health First Aid or willing to obtain this prior to commencement.
