An exciting opportunity exists for a dedicated, energetic and passionate individual to join the team at Sarina State High School as Head of Department - Student Services. The successful applicant will be responsible for student behavior support and also alternate programs for students from years 7-12. The duration of this temporary full-time vacancy is from 12 July 2021 until 10 December 2021 unless otherwise determined.

About the role

You will have responsibility for, but not limited to, the following activities and key tasks:

  • Provide leadership and guidance for the implementation of innovative measures aimed at improving student learning outcomes and attendance in schools where a significant percentage of students may have a disadvantaged background, ensuring quality learning outcomes for all students.
  • Provide management and engagement strategies including induction activities of new arrivals, and advise on specific academic, social and emotional needs of new arrivals.
  • Monitor students' individual performance and behavior and develop and implement intervention strategies where necessary.
  • Embed socially just practices in daily school life through leadership in relation to student attendance and improved academic outcomes.
  • Manage the human, financial, facilities and curriculum resources of the school department to achieve goals.

A mandatory requirement of this role is:

  • Current full registration or current provisional registration with eligibility for full registration, as a teacher in Queensland.
  • Teachers working in Education and Care Services (including State Delivered Kindergarten programs) require an exemption card issued by Blue Card Services.
