About Minimbah State School

Minimbah State School was established in 1997 and provides quality learning for students from Prep to Year 6. The Minimbah Berry Street Education Model, is designed to provide the school staffs, students and families, an initial contact for children whose needs do not fall under the more traditional areas of our Head of Curriculum, Guidance Officer and Head of Special Education Services. As the Head of Department -Student services, you will be overseeing the Berry Street Education Model.

The aims of this role is to:

  • To facilitate the implementation of the Berry Street Education Model in Minimbah State School
  • To improve the quality of pedagogical practice and support for our trauma based and severely disadvantaged students and families
  • To liaise with Classified School Officers and Berry Street trainers
  • To provide opportunities for staff to achieve individual development goals
  • To build staff capability in developing resources to support traumatised children (eg at a simple level, giving teachers a ‘template' so the teacher can develop a visual timetable for a child)
  • To liaise with support agencies and if necessary, assist children and families in accessing external supports
  • To support the schools shared culture of support for all community members.


  • Authentic school cultural improvement occurs when staff become experts and leaders in a field (trauma and disadvantage) and are given the opportunity to share their knowledge and expertise with colleagues
  • In order to achieve this, staff need support, training, observation, coaching and resources
  • The Berry Street Education Model implementation at Minimbah State School will run for two years.

Your Role

Lead the school

  • To develop, articulate and commit to a shared implementation of the Berry Street Educational Model
  • Embed socially just practices in daily school life;
  • Set high standards for student and staff performance;
  • Form partnerships with parents, other government agencies, and community groups as necessary;
  • Understand the legislation and policies that impact on schooling
  • Manage the human, financial and physical resources in order to achieve goals
  • Run and organise Tuesday's pre-prep playgroups.

A mandatory requirement of this role is:

  • Current full registration or current provisional registration with eligibility for full registration, as a teacher in Queensland.
  • Teachers working in Education and Care Services (including State Delivered Kindergarten programs) require an exemption card issued by BlueCard Services.
