Position Information

Berala Public School is located in South Western Sydney with an enrolment of 748 students. The school aims to provide students an engaging, inclusive and challenging learning environment to build strong foundations for future success. Our school is supported by a strong and vibrant multicultural community and a supportive P&C. Our Arabic, Chinese and Turkish Community Language Program supports students in maintaining and developing further communicative competence in their home language. 94% of our students have a language background other than English. At Berala Public School, we have a small number of students who identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander. Our school provides an abundance of extra-curricular opportunities in the areas of sport, creative and performing arts, environmental groups and social and emotional support clubs to enable our students to excel through a range of different experiences.

Selection Criteria

  1. In addition to the general selection criteria, approval to teach infants and/or primary with demonstrated evidence of extensive curriculum knowledge and experience in leading curriculum change informed by research and whole school data.
  2. Demonstrated high level of emotional intelligence and superior communication skills to best meet the diverse needs of students, staff and parents to build a positive and inclusive school culture that ensures every student is known, valued and cared for.
  3. An approachable, strategic and visible leader with the capacity to effectively initiate, lead and monitor the implementation of the school’s strategic directions and whole school plan.
  4. Expertise in building the capacity of all staff to embed a positive culture of collaboration and reflective practice to inspire and support staff in committing to pedagogical change.

General Selection Criteria

  1. Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice
  2. Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs
  3. Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams
  4. Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents
  5. Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning
  6. Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policies
