Position Information

Kirrawee High School is a comprehensive high school located in Sydney’s south, adjacent to the Royal National Park. It has a strong and proud tradition of excellence in academic attainment, the performing and creative arts, sport, student leadership, vocational education and training, student wellbeing and supporting students with additional needs. For more than 50 years, the school has offered broad curricula and co-curricular opportunities encouraging participation and involvement for all students.

The school has an enrolment of 1174 students with 3% of students speaking a language other than English at home and 2% identify as Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander. There are 79 teaching staff, of which 4% are early career teachers, and 32 non-teaching staff.

The school enjoys excellent support from the broader community, especially from parents/careers through the school's Parents & Citizens Association.

The school has recently engaged in a comprehensive situational analysis which has led to the 2021-2024 Strategic Improvement Plan. The school is committed to continually improving effective and innovative practices, to maximize student learning attainment and wellbeing.

  • Proven capacity to lead staff in analysing and interpreting a range of data sources to plan, implement and evaluate whole school programs and strategic initiatives that support the individual learning and wellbeing needs of students.

Conditions

If you have not held a substantive principal position in a NSW Public School at any time in the past five (5) years, you need to have completed the NSW Public School Leadership and Management Credential to be eligible to apply, and you will need to attach a copy of your provisional credential certificate or final credential certificate as part of your application.

An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.

Classification Structure for Principals:

The Crown Employees (Teachers in Schools and Related Employees) Salaries and Conditions Award 2017 details the new principal classification structure based on complexity of schools which commenced in 2016. The classification and remuneration of our school principals is based on school complexity, as measured through each school’s RAM allocation. As part of the ongoing application of the new structure a review of thresholds and outcomes will occur on an annual basis. The principal classification for this school is Principal Level 4 for 2021.

Should the successful applicant be an existing permanent substantive school principal who has not elected to opt into the new classification structure, they will have the choice to either;

  • Opt into the new classification structure which will provide them the remuneration package as detailed under ‘Compensation”, or
  • Be appointed under the previous classification structure which will provide them with a remuneration package valued at $204,827 Which is a base salary of $185,242 plus leave loading and employer’s contribution to superannuation.
