The purpose of the role under the direction and supervision of the Clinical Governance and Risk Manager, St George Hospital is responsibility for the development and implementation of patient safety and quality systems and the promotion of a culture of safety across all healthcare settings within St George Hospital. The Patient Safety Manager will work in collaboration with services and clinical units within St George Hospital to promote and improve patient safety and contribute to enhanced clinical quality.

  1. Health related qualifications e.g. nursing, allied health, or equivalent relevant experience
  2. High level organisational skills, ability to work autonomously and within a team and contribute to the creation of a positive workplace culture
  3. High level of leadership, motivation, initiative and time management skills with an ability to prioritise workload and deliver outcomes within time frames
  4. Demonstrated understanding and ability to apply the principles of patient safety, human factors and quality in a clinical setting
  5. Demonstrated understanding of clinical risk management concepts in relation to enterprise risk management and subsequent mitigation of identified patient safety risks
  6. Demonstrated analytical problem solving and decision making skills
  7. Demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills, including negotiation and liaison
  8. Demonstrated well-developed written and verbal communication skills including the ability to present to a wide audience and developing and delivering education programs
