We’re looking for an experienced senior manager who has extensive risk assurance experience to join our second line Risk Management team as the Risk Assurance Manager. You will be responsible for the second line risk assurance activities which provide monitoring and evidence-based assurance on the design and operating effectiveness of the enterprise Risk Management Framework. The Risk Assurance Manager will develop and implement the controls assurance program for monitoring, testing and reporting on the control’s framework across icare, leveraging any first line assurance activities and providing objective challenge on the robustness of the control. The role is also responsible for assisting the business to identify improvement actions and strategies to strengthen controls where assurance activities indicate weaknesses. 

You’ll be working with a diverse mix of high performing people who really care about making a difference for people and the NSW community. You will have a mind for getting things done and a heart for people and you will set the bar high through the quality of the work you do and the people-oriented decisions you make.

You’ll bring demonstrated experience in implementation of enterprise-wide risk management frameworks and developed and implemented controls assurance program for monitoring, testing and reporting on controls frameworks. Ideally, you will have developed a sound understanding of business risk, mitigation strategies and assurance frameworks within an insurance, corporate or commercially driven public sector environment. Bringing strong influencing skills, and able to establish relationships all levels of an organisation, you’ll be highly collaborative and maintain the highest standards of professionalism in a fast-paced environment.

It’s an exciting environment where no two days are the same. But on a typical day you might find yourself:

  • Providing information and advice to the General Manager, Risk Management on the evaluation of business strategies to identify gaps and to strengthen controls.
  • Undertaking risk-based deep dives on high-risk areas for assess the strength of the control framework.
  • Researching and providing input into the risk management framework and associated policies and procedures to ensure they reflect industry best practice for a robust control framework.
  • Assessing and evaluating policies and procedures to achieve the identified risk management objectives and recommend improvements to business operations where necessary.
  • Coaching and guiding business leaders to ensure they are suitably equipped to manage and control risk in their area of accountability and that a consistent approach to risk mitigation is taken across the business.
  • Developing relationships with business leaders to influence and foster a risk aware culture
