Lawyer (Grade 9/10) Office of Registrar General (ORG)

•Unique opportunity to use your legal expertise and skills to help drive digital reforms, in relation to NSW electronic conveyancing reforms and the NSW land title system
•Salary range $ 111,077- $ 122,404 PA plus superannuation
•Up to 17 month opportunity

About the role

Reporting to the Managing Lawyer - Commercial, this an up to 17 month opportunity working in a friendly and fast-paced environment. It provides an opportunity to continue to develop a legal approach and processes for the future. It will maintain and build on relationships with other regulators, including the ACCC and other States’ land registry regulators. The right applicant will be a team player, willing to develop skills in new legal areas, comfortable with ambiguity, who enjoys working with others to develop innovative solutions. 

ORG is responsible for ensuring the integrity of the NSW land title system. It regulates the concession of NSW’s land titles registry, as well as overseeing providers of electronic conveyancing services in NSW. 

The Regulation and Compliance team is responsible for operationalising the LPI concession arrangements: managing governance and reporting as well as advising on strategic issues. The team is also responsible for regulating Electronic Lodgement Network Operators (ELNOs) in NSW, advising the Registrar General on the relevant legislation, operating requirements and NSW licence conditions and working with representatives from other States as part of this national reform. 

About you

To be successful in this role you will be admitted as a legal practitioner of the Supreme Court of NSW and hold a current practising certificate

ORG is looking for someone with excellent legal skills, who has experience delivering complex projects, with great ideas on effective regulatory oversight and is passionate about digital reforms— an interest in technology is also welcome. 

Key Selection Criteria:

•Experience providing practical, legal advice and information and performing generalist legal tasks
•Excellent research, drafting, documentation skills and strong academic skills
•Rigorous project management skills, to set priorities, manage multiple stakeholders and deliver work within set timeframes
•Working knowledge of digital reforms or ability to acquire a working knowledge rapidly
•Strong communication skills with a client-focused approach
•The ability to work with a high level of autonomy.
