About the Role

The Field Technician roles are based at the major SRA sites and provide field operations support to Variety Development and applied research activity. Work is primarily based on SRA farms but also includes offsite trials. Under the direction of the Field Operations Leader the Field Technician conducts or contributes to a range of tasks to support execution of trials such as land preparation, planting, irrigation, fertilizer and herbicide application, sampling, and harvest.
These field operations form part of scientific experimentation, and a high level of uniformity and consistency are required to ensure accurate and meaningful trial results.

Key Responsibilities Include:
    Actively support SRA’s cultural transformation to being a place of continual learning and commercially outcome focussed organisation.

    Under the direction of the Field Operations Leader conduct land cultivation, fertiliser application, irrigation, and herbicide applications

    As part of a larger Variety Development team contribute to planting, sampling, and harvest operations.

    Provide field operations support to various research activities.

    Maintain records of field operation activity including BMP requirements.

    Contribute to the continuous improvement of HSE protocols and practices with active engagement in established procedures

    Periodic supervision of casual staff

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

    Ability to conduct physical work in very hot and humid environments.

    Previous experience working within sugarcane or other crop industries.

    Experience operating agricultural machinery.

    Ability to independently work safely and accurately following instruction or standard operating procedures.

    Reliable and professional work ethic.

    A current Drivers license.
