Allied Health Educator

0.4 FTE Position

The Education Team are seeking expressions of interest from suitably qualified enthusiastic and

motivated Allied Health Professionals with a keen interest in education to join our team as the Allied

Health Educator in a 0.4 capacity.

The Allied Health Educator works in collaboration with health professionals in Swan Hill District

Health (SHDH), the Loddon Mallee region and relevant education institutions to manage and

coordinate undergraduate allied health placements, and to support staff to develop their clinical

supervision skills.

The position will work collaboratively with Staff Education staff to promote undergraduate

nursing/Allied Health placement opportunities across health services, community organisations

and private practice in the Loddon Mallee region.

The Allied Health Educator holds a leadership position and will collaborate closely with the

Education Department, Allied Health Departments in SHDH, and Universities to support students

and graduates to practice as safe, confident and accountable health professionals.

Position: Allied Health Educator

Classification: Allied Health Professionals Grade 3

Department: Staff Education

Reports to: Staff Education Manager

Position Summary: The Allied Health Educator (0.4EFT) works in collaboration with health

professionals in Swan Hill District Health (SHDH), the Loddon Mallee region

and relevant education institutions to manage and coordinate undergraduate

allied health placements, and to support staff to develop their clinical

supervision skills. The position will work collaboratively with Staff Education

staff to promote undergraduate nursing/Allied Health placement opportunities

across health services, community organisations and private practice in the

Loddon Mallee region.

The Allied Health Educator holds a leadership position and will collaborate

closely with the Education Department, Allied Health Departments in SHDH,

and Universities to support students and graduates to practice as safe,

confident and accountable health professionals.

Responsibilities: Develop collaborative partnerships with Education Providers to support

growth of allied health placements.

Utilise Placeright to assist in coordinating Allied Health undergraduate

student clinical placements, including review of placement planning and

capacity; and to liaise with education providers during the placement

planning phase.

Coordinate student placement and supervision in liaison with Allied Health

Managers

Oversee clinical supervision to ensure all requirements are being met and

recorded appropriately.

To support the Director, Primary Care Services to grow placement

opportunities to reach the multidisciplinary rural placement targets.

Create networks at higher level and/or specialist allied health services

with larger health services.

Investigate professional development opportunities including funding

support to access or deliver.

Undertake a needs analysis to identify learning and clinical support needs

of Allied Health professionals at SHDH.

To promote a culture of professional development and a positive learning

environment as per the Best Practice Clinical Learning Environment

(BPCLE) Framework by motivating staff and initiating strategies to

promote learning for all colleagues recognising individual abilities and

organisational needs.

Conduct tutorials, workshops, clinical and simulation sessions to support

interprofessional learning opportunities for medical, nursing and allied

health students in collaboration with colleagues at SHDH.

Support the Education Department at SHDH to drive education within the

hospital in line with organisational and departmental strategic plan.

Attend relevant departmental meetings and active membership of

appropriate committees.

Maintain involvement in professional practice.

Undertake administrative functions as related to the role.

Key Selection Criteria Essential

  • Tertiary qualifications in a relevant Allied Health registration with the
Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) where

relevant.

  • Considerable clinical experience in a hospital or community environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Well developed organisational skills with the ability to successfully
manage competing issues and meet deadlines and ability to work

effectively both independently and within a collaborative team.

  • Demonstrated leadership skills and initiative.
  • Ability to network and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Commitment to inter-professional learning, quality improvement and
evidence-based practice.

  • Sound computer literacy
Desirable

  • Experience in clinical supervision and development.
  • Relevant post-graduate qualifications or willingness to work towards the
same (including Certificate IV in Workplace Training and Assessment).

  • Experience in the delivery of education programs utilising a range of
learning modalities.

Salary/Award: Salary in accordance with relevant Award - Allied Health Professionals /
