Ambulance Victoria (AV) plays a vital role in improving the health of our community by delivering innovative, high quality ambulance services and providing exceptional patient care. As Victoria's only state-wide health service, AV occupies a unique role in the public health system, continuing to evolve our services to meet the growing and increasingly complex needs of Victorians, to connect every patient to the right pathway of care - whether hospital emergency or alternative pathways.

One of those pathways is our Adult Retrieval Victoria (ARV) division, currently seeking Patient Transport Officers to provide effective and efficient transportation of critically ill patients from a referring health service or air platform to a suitable destination health service / critical care unit. It is expected that the PTO will have portfolio responsibilities contributing to a high function team.

Both positions are permanent roles, currently based out of Brady Street South Melbourne and operate on a rotating roster, working 64 hours per fortnight across various days, nights and weekends, with an average of 32 hours worked per week. Availability for working unpredictable incidental shift extensions is a requirement of this position.

About the role

As part of a multidisciplinary team, the Patient Transport Officer's key objective is;

Responding to cases in a timely manner to ensure patients are transported efficiently and maximising availability of vehicles to respond to cases.
Driving the ambulance, managing the equipment and providing logistical support when transferring patients with complex issues.
Providing appropriate patient assessment, care & transport, effective patient handover and complete Patient Care Records accurately and legibly.
Working cooperatively within the multi-disciplinary team to ensure team goals are achieved and effective services provided with timeframes.
Liaising with Operational Comms, ARV Coordinators, Retrieval Administration Support Officer (RASO) staff regarding patient condition, case time acknowledgement/status, vehicle maintenance requirements, and delays on cases

About you

Utilising your significant patient transport skills, having provided safe transfer and logistical support when moving critically unwell patients, you will bring with you the following:

Successful completion of the Certificate III in Non-Emergency Client Transport or equivalent/alternative Ambulance qualifications:

>Certificate III in Health Science (Ambulance Transport Assistant)

>Qualified Ambulance Paramedic

>Diploma of Ambulance Paramedic Science

>Bachelor of Health Science (or other Paramedic degree)

Well-developed verbal and written communication skills
Strong attention to detail, demonstrating sound clinical problem solving capability
Ability to exhibit empathy and understanding when interacting with patients and families
Proven ability to work within a cohesive team and follow direction

You will be required to pass a medical and physical fitness assessment as determined by Ambulance Victoria. Upon commencement with Ambulance Victoria, all successful applicants must be available to attend a two week induction program in Melbourne. The induction will be based around office hours, Monday to Friday for the duration of the program. All PTO staff will be trained in the use of specific ARV equipment and providing support to the clinical team. Travel within Victoria will be required.

The FTE Salary for this position is $75,641pa, plus 9.5% superannuation.
