An exciting opportunity is available to utilise and enhance your social work skills working at South Eastern Centre Against Sexual Assault and Family Violence (SECASA) as a Counsellor/Advocate (Grade 2).

The successful candidates will have a strong understanding of the personal and political issues surrounding sexual assault, family violence and complex interpersonal trauma. The position is responsible for delivering high-quality counselling and advocacy to victim survivors of sexual assault and family violence and their support people, using frameworks of intersectionality, trauma focussed interventions, gender equality and a human rights based approach.

The South Eastern Centre Against Sexual Assault and Family Violence (SECASA) provides sexual assault and family violence therapeutic support and advocacy across nine locations within south eastern metropolitan region of Melbourne. SECASA delivers a wide range of services including individual and group counselling, advocacy, crisis support, and community education prioritising the empowerment of victim survivors.

About the Role:
Undertake intake and initial assessment for people who have experienced sexual assault and/or family violence

Provide high quality crisis counselling, information, support and referrals

Co-ordinate crisis care services to survivors of recent sexual assault

Provide secondary consultation to other professionals, including Monash Health staff and external organisations

Undertake risk assessments and support safety as appropriate, including referrals and collaborative working with key agencies and the service sector

Participation in after hours Crisis Response roster

Mentoring and/or supervision of students and staff as required and consistent with the relevant certified agreement

Contribute to the delivery of community and professional education

About You:
Are you a social worker with a minimum of 2 years post qualifying experience?

Have you worked with complex trauma, using frameworks of intersectionality, gender equality and a human rights based approach?

Do you have an understanding of the personal and political dynamics of sexual assault and family violence?

Are you an excellent communicator, committed to collaborative work and contributing to a dynamic and resilient team?

Are you passionate about delivering high quality counselling support and advocacy for people who have experienced sexual assault and family violence?

What You Need:
You must be eligible for AASW membership including continuing professional education

Proven experience in working with clients who have experienced complex trauma related to sexual assault and/or family violence

High quality risk assessment and safety planning skills

Experience in working collaboratively with key agencies to advocate for clients

Current Driver’s Licence

Current Working with Children’s Check
