This is an exciting professional opportunity for a Senior Human Resource Consultant to join the Human Resources team at the Metropolitan Cemeteries Board (MCB).

The ideal candidate will possess the necessary experience, skills and abilities to manage the day-to-day supervision of the Human Resources Office, and provide a customer service focused consultancy and advisory service to staff on a range of human resource matters. The primary functions of this position are:

  • Responsible for the day to day supervision of the Human Resources Office
  • Provides a customer service focussed consultancy and advisory service to supervisors and staff on a diverse range of human resource matters, including assisting with the resolution of employee relations issues, grievances, disputes, performance issues and disciplinary matters
  • Coordinates the development and implementation of the MCB's training program
  • Contributes to the development, implementation, review and evaluation of HR strategies, plans, programs, policies, procedures, guidelines and systems
  • Contributes to HR projects which focus on achieving greater employee engagement, efficiency and productivity.

The successful applicant will have:

  • Substantial experience in providing a customer service focused consultancy and advisory service, providing timely, relevant and accurate advice to supervisors and employees on a broad range of human resource and employee relations matters.
  • Experience in supervising HR and payroll functions.
  • Experience in grievance and dispute resolution, and investigating discipline matters and performance issues.
  • Excellent knowledge of, and ability to interpret and accurately apply Public Sector human resource management legislation, standards, policies, practices, awards and agreements.
  • Demonstrated commitment to ethical decision making, values based management, and contemporary human resource management principles and practices which govern equity, probity and effective workforce management.
  • Strong communication (written and verbal), interpersonal, negotiation and conflict resolution skills, and excellent policy and report writing skills.
  • Well-developed conceptual, analytical and problem solving ability for identifying innovative and effective human resource solutions, and improving employee engagement, productivity and efficiencies.
  • Experience in identifying training needs, developing, implementing and evaluating training and development programs.

  • A tertiary qualification in Human Resource Management or a relevant field.
