This role works within the Observing Systems and Operations (OSO) Program in the Data and Digital Group (DDG), undertaking the duties of Manager, Sea Level Network.

Reporting to the Observing Network Service Manager, you will be responsible for the management of a wide range of supporting activities vital to the operational management of the Bureau's national sea level network, with an emphasis on tsunami observing networks and supporting infrastructure (data communication, power supply etc.) In addition to duties in the Melbourne Office it will be necessary to manage and perform duties at the Tsunami Laboratory and Workshop located at Campbellfield, Victoria.

To operate effectively in this role, you will undertake complex operational and network support tasks. These tasks will include the coordination of resources for maintenance, inspections and return to service of sophisticated technologies, advanced system diagnostics and fault finding; technical administration, and facilitate knowledge sharing.

Our ideal candidate will possess sound management ability with a high degree of communication skills and in-depth technical knowledge and expertise in coastal and deep ocean sea level observing equipment, noting that some training on specialist equipment can be provided to compliment a strong background in similar technology.

The role requires the availability and willingness to perform duties at sea for periods of up to three weeks and, accordingly, the ability to obtain a certificate of medical fitness for duty at sea is an inherent requirement.
