About the Mental Health Department

St Vincent's is proud of its International reputation for delivery of Mental Health Services and the use of the 'Strengths Model' and its principles. The Mental Health Service includes a 44 bed adult acute inpatient unit for the cities of Yarra and Boroondara; the Koori state-wide Inpatient Mental Health Service; Continuing Care Teams; a Crisis Assessment Team; ED Mental Health and Psychiatric Triage; Prevention and Recovery Care Service (PARC); Footbridge Community Care Unit; The Primary Intervention Care Team (PICT); Mobile Support Teams; Clarendon Homeless Outreach Psychiatric Service (CHOPS); Victorian Dual Diagnosis Service (VDDS); Body Image Eating Disorders Treatment and Recovery Service (BETRS) and NEXUS (Concurrent Mental Illness and Substance Use Advisory Service); Consultation & Liaison Service and Victorian Transcultural Mental Health (VTMH).

About the Role

An exciting opportunity exists within St Vincent's Hospital in the Mental Health Service for an experienced, enthusiastic and innovative mental health clinician with demonstrated ability to manage multi-disciplinary community teams. As part of the mental health leadership team, the successful applicant will play an important role in leading and supporting service-wide developments and initiatives at a time of reform and advancement, creating a culture of continuous improvement and excellence.

The classification for this role will be YC92 with an over award payment equating to $127,255 per annum.


  • Manage the daily operation of the multidisciplinary community teams by using systems supporting the effective co-ordination of resources in order to achieve optimal service delivery within a recovery framework
  • Develop and maintain linkages to ensure optimal continuity of care between community mental health services, other parts of the service and primary care
  • Ensure the community mental health service operates in accordance with high clinical standards within a recovery framework and other relevant standards such as professional, service and quality standards
  • Ensure staff are familiar with relevant legislation, service policy and Department of Health guidelines and act accordingly
  • Provide leadership and participation in relevant service committees and working groups
  • Participate in development and implementation of the mental health strategic plan
  • Identify service development issues, service development plans and following consultation, lead the change management processes and implementation of quality projects
  • Participate in the on-call managers' roster for the mental health service.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience

  • Relevant qualifications in social sciences, mental health, community health and /or health management.
  • A qualification and experience in a mental health discipline is desirable.
  • Post-graduate qualifications in management or health administration or progress towards such qualification desirable.
  • Knowledge and experience of the mental health service system and Mental Health legislation in the Victorian context
