Who are we:

The Department for Trade and Investment (DTI) helps industry ecosystems and businesses identify and capitalise upon opportunities for job creation and economic growth. A strong economic future for South Australia depends on growing exports and investments. DTI works with South Australian businesses and stakeholders to boost exports, attract investments and grow the state’s international engagement and showcase South Australia to the world.

DTI supports businesses to connect with overseas markets, create strong international relationships and capitalise on export opportunities, while at the same time, strengthening the South Australian economy through investment and creation of jobs.

The Role:

The Investment Business Development Officer (BDO), Defence, reports to the Investment Business Development Manager (BDM) Defence, and will work closely with the Investment BDM Defence, Industry Capability Network (ICN) team, other sector BDOs/BDMs and Defence SA.

The role requires the BDO to work under broad direction and manage a range of investment projects across the sectors. This includes structuring and closing deals, topical research, developing high level papers and producing complex and sensitive reports, presentations, and briefings to inform the department and Government on projects, policy and outcomes. In addition, the BDO will support international engagement across whole of government defence initiatives, investment strategy projects and customer relationship management systems.

The BDO will collaborate across DTI to ensure stakeholder events are adequately managed and quality detailed reports and briefings are developed on time. The role also holds responsibility for ensuring reporting and effective processes and protocols are in place for liaison between the department, Ministers’ Offices, and key Government stakeholders, including other Government departments, both State and Federal.

About You:

To be successful in this position, you must be able to demonstrate experience across the following key capabilities:

  • Comprehensive knowledge of the defence sector, investment opportunities & issues, State Government priorities and relevant policies with regards to defence.
  • A sound understanding of emerging opportunities within the defence industry, nationally and internationally.
  • Strong entrepreneurial drive.
  • Can develop, structure and close a deal; proactively creates and pursues opportunities akin to the market, and translates them into value for South Australia.
  • Experience in developing and maintaining effective networks, alliances and operational relationships with internal and external clients and stakeholders.
  • Experience in applying market research to inform business strategies and relevant experience in collecting and utilising customer information for marketing purposes.

Desirable Qualification:

Tertiary qualifications in Engineering, Commerce, Economics, Business, or Project Management

Special Conditions

  • Experience in Investment project delivery.
  • A minimum of five years’ experience working within Defence or Defence Industry
  • Successful applicants may be required to obtain a satisfactory Department of Human Services Criminal History Check or National Police Check prior to employment. A renewal will be required every 3 years.
  • This is to be offered for a term period of five (5) years.

ASO6: $92,784 - $98,143 per annum
