With your substantial experience in the building industry, you are able to resolve complex building compliance issues and achieve outcomes which are compliant and robust. With comprehensive knowledge of, and the ability to understand, interpret and apply legislation, you will ensure that building work of all types complies with all relevant Acts, Regulations, Codes and Local Laws. This primarily involves undertaking complex building compliance investigations, ensuring compliance (using legislative powers as necessary) and taking enforcement actions, including prosecution.

You will possess a recognised building industry qualification under the Building Services (Registration) Act 2011. You will also have excellent interpersonal and negotiation skills, and your sound time management and organisational skills will enable you to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines. Able to work in a busy Local Government office, you will enjoy working as part of a cooperative team by providing technical assistance to a team of compliance officers.

To be considered for this role, you must address the following selection criteria in your application (please limit your response to three pages in total):

  1. Recognised building industry qualification as a building service practitioner (level 1 or 2).
  2. Comprehensive knowledge of, and ability to interpret and apply, relevant legislation including the Building Act 2011, Building Regulations 2012, Building Code of Australia, and the Local Government Act 1995.
  3. Substantial experience within the building industry (private and/or public sectors)
  4. Highly developed negotiation and interpersonal skills.
  5. Highly developed verbal and written communication skills.
  6. Highly developed time management and organisational skills.
  7. Highly developed analytical and decision making skills.
  8. Substantial practical experience in compliance/enforcement at Local Government or State Government level (desirable).
  9. Sound knowledge of the operation of a Local Government authority and the relationship to other local government disciplines (Desirable).
