The Bendigo Health Human Research Ethics Committee (HREC) reviews new research proposals and monitors existing research conducted at Bendigo Health (BH) to ensure it is conducted according to the highest scientific and ethical principles. The composition of the HREC is mandated by the National Health and Medical Research Council and consists of both institutional and non-institutional members. The non-institutional members represent the local community and include lay members and others from backgrounds in law, pastoral care, social science, teaching and research. 

Bendigo Health is currently recruiting for the following non-institutional member for their Human Research Ethics Committee to provide community perspective on the Human Research Ethics Committee.

Lawyer member

This position requires a lawyer member to provide advice to the HREC on the legal implications for research participants, the researcher and the institution of the research being considered. Lawyer members provide a valuable perspective on applications being considered by the committee.

The successful applicants will have the opportunity to join a diverse, friendly and supportive team environment. Induction training and ongoing support is provided by the Secretariat. 

While this position is honorary, it is one of significant responsibility. Committee members are required to attend meetings on the third Friday of each month from 12:00pm. Meeting preparation involves the review of a considerable amount of documentation.
