About the branch
The Environment and Science Division provides scientific and technical advice and strategic guidance on environment and conservation matters across Parks Victoria and to the Department of Environment Land Water and Planning and other government agencies on environmental conservation policy, funding needs and program delivery. The Division brings together strategy, planning, science, programming, monitoring and evaluation for Park Victoria with a focus on delivery of frameworks, standards and advice.
The Biodiversity Science unit leads Parks Victoria's biodiversity science program to improve understanding of the status, biology and ecology of threatened and other native species, communities and habitats to improve park management. It includes environmental impact assessment, building conservation and monitoring partnerships, application of new and emerging remote sensing technology and contributing to evidence-based decision making in an adaptive management framework.
About the role and your responsibilities:
As the Ecological Planner your primary focus will be to lead ecological planning for the Prom Sanctuary project. You will lead ecological planning and strategy, provide scientific and technical advice to project staff and other staff across the organisation, seek and assess external advice on proposals and work with external partners in the development of ecological plans and strategy.
You will also contribute to the activities of a multi-disciplinary team to design, implement, monitor and report on the Prom Sanctuary component of the Prom Revitalisation Project. In this role you will also build and maintain strong relationships with Parks Victoria staff, external environmental non-government organisations, academic researchers and other agencies to obtain guidance and advice for an effective and achievable exclusion fence design.
To be successful for this role you will need:

* Tertiary degree in ecology, environmental science or environmental management or equivalent.
* Demonstrated ability and experience to analyse and interpret ecological information and to understand and communicate their implications for environmental management.
* Demonstrated ability to build and maintain partnerships and to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team as well as independently.
* A current employee Working with Children Check is required.
