We are seeking someone experienced in the Hospitality Industry to be our Hostel Manager to run our hostel in vibrant Port Macquarie. The town is a must to visit along the East Coast half way between Sydney and Byron Bay. Our hostel offers comfortable and relaxed accommodation comprising shared dormitories and private rooms, as well as selling tours with a wide range of local operators. Ozzie Pozzie Backpackers is an independent owned Hostel associated with YHA Australia.

Responsibilities (but not limited to):

  • Manage all functions of the hostel including reservations, reception, event planning, property maintenance, housekeeping, security and OHS
  • Apply yield and rate strategies
  • Manage sales, promotion and marketing plans
  • Develop and manage relationships with key local business contacts
  • Staff recruitment, training, supervision and leadership
  • Prepare weekly hostel rosters, staff shifts and leave arrangements to ensure optimal staffing for daily hostel operations
  • Creating policies and procedures for hostel operations for Owner’s approval
  • Budget management and inventory control of daily hostel operations
  • Customer service and crisis management for guests including outside reception hours
  • Advise guests of tourism information, arrange tours and transport

To be successful in this role, the candidate will need to have the following experience and skills:

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in a similar role in Hostels or Hotels/Motels
  • Hospitality or Tourism or Business management diploma
  • Full Australian driving licence
  • An eye for detail and an analytical mind
  • Excellent English level (a second language like French/ German/ Spanish/ Mandarin would be beneficial)
  • Experience working with CALD people
  • You must have experienced a busy, fast paced environment and be able to work well under pressure
  • An understanding of bookkeeping and general accounting for the business
  • Good knowledge of reservation and point of sales systems
  • Must have the right to work in Australia.
  • Excellent customer service skills and
  • Able to take constructive feedback
  • Must be willing to travel, work PM shifts, weekends and public holidays as and when required.
  • Experience with Guest Centrix our PMS will be highly regarded and beneficial
