This pool will be used initially to fill one permanent vacancy at Karrakatta Cemetery. Any other applicants found suitable will be placed in a pool to fill any vacancies that may arise in the next 12 months at either Karrakatta, Fremantle or Pinnaroo Valley Memorial Park (Padbury).

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Horticulturalist to join the Operations team as at Team Leader (Grounds) at the MCB.


As a Team Leader (Grounds), this position leads a small team of Cemetery Workers (Grounds) working within cemetery grounds to achieve high standards in horticulture and grounds maintenance, and customer service at allocated MCB sites.

The primary functions of this position are to:

  • Plan, organise, supervise and perform operational duties including funeral services, landscaping, horticultural and/or irrigation duties
  • Mentor and provide leadership and guidance to team members
  • Provide expert assistance in divisional planning activities, and
  • Assist with coordination and administration duties within the Planning and Operations Division.

The successful applicant will have:

  • Completion of Certificate III Horticulture, or Parks and Gardens, or another relevant qualification.
  • Demonstrated competent performance in horticulture, landscaping or grounds maintenance, and sufficient experience (around 4-6 years of varied and accumulated experience) to enable competent performance of a range of job assignments.
  • Ability to provide leadership to motivate, mentor and provide on the job training to staff.
  • Effective interpersonal, written and personal skills.
  • Ability to communicate sensitively and respectfully with internal and external stakeholders and customers from different ethnic backgrounds to resolve difficult enquiries and complaints.
  • Ability to operate and perform basic maintenance on relevant equipment e.g. power tools, front end loaders, tractors and trucks) through application of technical knowledge, and carry out workplace measurements and calculations.
  • Ability to apply workplace health and safety and equal opportunity policies and practices.
  • Commitment to honest and ethical work practices, behaviour and decision making.
  • Computer literacy skills and application using Microsoft Windows.
