JOB DESCRIPTION

The key duties of the position include
The ACCC's Consumer Product Safety's Risk Management and Policy Branch (RMP) works with stakeholders to encourage the supply of safe consumer products and to communicate serious risk. It supports the Minister through evidence-based interventions when hazards are identified.

The Monitoring and Recalls Section is composed of two teams: Recalls and Recalls Monitoring. These teams work collaboratively to deliver the primary functions of the section including:

  • administering the voluntary recall provisions of the Australian Consumer Law
  • monitoring the performance of voluntary recalls
  • delivering and assisting other RMP sections to deliver risk-based responses to safety hazards. Recalls Team The Recalls Project Officer is responsible for the research and analysis of product safety issues, particularly in relation to hazard management and assessment of recall notifications. Lower level (APS4), under general guidance from your supervisor duties include:
    • prepare routine voluntary recalls (under s128 ACL) for publication by assessing recall and supply chain information and recall strategies, and practising accurate recordkeeping
    • effective liaison with suppliers notifying and conducting recalls to maximise the effectiveness of safety recalls
    • develop and maintain strong working relationships with external stakeholders, government agencies, state and territory regulatory agencies, industry reference groups and committee representatives
    • contribute to educational materials, media and social media content relating to consumer product safety issues and recalls
    • prepare timely responses to consumer enquiries and complaints
    • contribute to investigations, reporting and data analysis to support the work of the section and the Risk Management and Policy Branch. Upper level (APS5), under broad direction from your supervisor duties include:
      • prepare more complex voluntary recalls (under s128 ACL) for publication by assessing recall and supply chain information and recall strategies, and practising accurate recordkeeping
      • effective liaison with suppliers notifying and conducting recalls to maximise the effectiveness of safety recalls
      • develop and maintain strong working relationships with external stakeholders, government agencies, state and territory regulatory agencies, industry reference groups and committee representatives
      • plan, draft and publish educational materials, media and social media content relating to consumer product safety issues and recalls
      • prepare timely responses to consumer enquiries and complaints
      • lead investigations, reporting and data analysis to support the work of the section and Risk Management and Policy Branch
      • represent the ACCC at industry reference groups and committee meetings. Recalls Monitoring Team The Recalls Monitoring Project Officer is responsible for the research and analysis of product safety issues, particularly in relation to assessing the performance of product safety recalls.
        Lower level (APS4), under general guidance from your supervisor duties include:
        • monitor the progress of product safety recalls by accurately assessing progress reports and practising accurate recordkeeping
        • liaise with suppliers notifying and conducting recalls to maximise the effectiveness of product safety recalls
        • develop and maintain strong working relationships with external stakeholders, government agencies, state and territory regulatory agencies, industry reference groups and committee representatives
        • prepare timely responses to consumer enquiries and complaints
        • contribute to investigations, reporting and data analysis to support the work of the section and Risk Management and Policy Branch. Upper level (APS5), under broad direction from your supervisor duties include:
          • review performance and risk of product safety recalls
          • advise on appropriate recall performance improvement
          • liaise with suppliers undertaking product safety recalls to maximise the effectiveness of safety recalls
          • develop and maintain strong working relationships with external stakeholders, government agencies, state and territory regulatory agencies, industry reference groups and committee representatives
          • prepare timely and complex correspondence and committee papers
          • lead investigations, prepare reports and data analysis to support the work of the section and the Risk Management and Policy Branch
          • represent the ACCC at external forums.
