Mine Geologist

Work Location: Eliwana

Roster: FIFO Ex Perth 8:6 Days only

We are currently seeking a highly motivated Mine Geologist to join our Operations Planning team at our Eliwana Operations. This permanent position is an 8&6 roster, with a highly competitive remuneration package.

Reporting to the Senior Mine Geologist, the focus of your role will be to ensure that all mine geology functions are carried out to a high standard, ensuring the safe, efficient and accurate achievement of mine production targets.

Key accountabilities will include:

  • Adhere to Fortescue’s vision and values.
  • Generation and reconciliation of grade control models.
  • Ore block boundary definition using data from blast cone samples, pit floor mapping and resource definition drilling.
  • Wall mapping and digitisation for storage in the Geotechnical database.
  • Ore spotting along high-risk ore – waste contacts.
  • Provide guidance to the operations planning and mining teams in order to maximise ore recovery and minimise dilution.
  • Daily inspections of active mining faces and ROM stockpiles.
  • Daily tracking of ore and waste movements to ensure compliance to plan.
  • Drive operational mining hygiene by building strong relationships with the mining teams.
  • Provide training and mentoring to the field technicians.

Qualifications and skills required:

  • Tertiary qualification in Geology/Geoscience.
  • Knowledge of the Brockman and Marra Mamba Iron Formations.
  • Experience in identifying and managing fibrous minerals and hot/cold shales.
  • Fundamental mine geology and reconciliation knowledge.
  • Solid working knowledge of MS Office, Vulcan and the Grade Control Module.
  • Strong communication, leadership and time management skills.
  • High level of enthusiasm and enjoys overcoming technical challenges by developing new skills.
  • Python/Lava, SQL, Snowflake or Tableau experience is desirable.
  • Current WA C-Class manual driver’s license.
