Fixed Term Part Time (4 days per week) until November 2021

About the role

Latrobe City Council provides quality early childhood services to our community and are a key element in children’s early development and education.

The Early Childhood Outreach Worker – Preschool Participation will facilitate the successful transition of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and their families into universal early years services, with the ultimate goal of increasing the participation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children in Preschool programs, including 4 year old preschool and Early Start Kindergarten.

The aims of the position are to:

  • improve access and support to early years services within Latrobe City for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and their families;
  • raise awareness of early years supports and services within the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community;
  • facilitate access to Early Start Kindergarten for eligible families;
  • work with other relevant early year’s staff in the preparation of support and transition plans; and
  • work with the families to and staff for a sustained attendance in Kindergarten Programs.

To be successful in this role you will have well developed interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of people, along with a demonstrated understanding of:

  • Kindergarten services;
  • Barriers for families accessing early years services;
  • The local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community.
