About the role

This role is involved in the development and implementation of externally funded initiatives designed to prevent mental injury in Victorian workplaces, through the WorkSafe WorkWell program. This role has a very strong focus on contract and relationship management and requires exceptional skills in negotiating, communicating and influencing external organisations to deliver change projects to prevent mental injury at an organisational or industry-wide level.

Program Officers in the Programs Branch form part of a flexible resource pool that work under the direction of a Program Manager. Typically they work in multi-disciplinary teams to develop, implement, manage and evaluate projects designed to address complex problems to assist the Health and Safety Business Unit (HSBU) to improve health and safety at work. They may:

  • Partner with other parts of the Health and Safety Business Unit to assist in delivering technical, regulatory or operational projects as required.
  • Collaborate on the scoping, design and delivery of projects and design tailored strategies to progress specific issues with stakeholders, drawing on the technical and operational support of others.
  • Interpret research and analysis complex information to develop recommendations that inform the development of strategies and interventions to achieve health and safety outcomes.
  • Undertake and report on the delivery of project plans and Funding Agreement milestones and deliverables. Determine if projects are on track or require adjustment and take action accordingly.
  • Provide mentoring and coaching support to project officers as required.

About you

You are an experienced Program Officer who wants to make a difference. Your communication and organisational skills are exemplary - you are a team oriented person dedicated to making an impact on the mental health and wellbeing of Victorian workers. You are committed to health & safety.

You possess the following key skills and qualifications:

  • Ability & proven experience managing, negotiating and influencing complex stakeholder relationships
  • Experience in delivering multi-pronged behaviour change programs
  • Ability to understand, communicate and translate complex information into action
  • Ability to autonomously lead a portfolio of work and work in teams
  • Exception time management and attention to detail and quality
  • Tertiary qualification & or experience in Health Promotion, Health Sciences, Occupational Health and Safety or related disciplines is highly regarded
  • An understanding of workplace mental health would be advantageous.
