The Opportunity

Moonee Valley City Council’s Works & Emergency Management is currently seeking a Waste Prevention Officer to join a committed and passionate waste management.

The Waste Prevention Officer will be responsible to deliver efficient and effective operations for the benefit of the community through inspections, educational materials and liaising with relevant trader groups to reduce waste issues and contamination of street litter bins.


  • To investigate and assist in collecting all requests relating to dumped and illegally dumped rubbish within the municipality;
  • Responsible for liaising with traders groups, real estate agents and body corporations on current waste issues and contamination of street litter bins;
  • If evidence is available, will need to notify the person responsible to remove the rubbish;
  • Inspect street waste bin to identify illegal dumping by businesses/traders and residents;
  • Identify known areas for illegal dumping/littering – Provide education materials and liaise with trader group and community members; and
  • Inspection of charity bins, dead ends; industrial areas, units/flats and notify EPA for enforcement.

About You

To be suitable for this position, you will possess:

  • Certificate 4 in Operational Management with little or no experience or lesser formal qualifications with work skills and relevant experience;
  • Knowledge and understanding of the necessary materials, tools and equipment required by the unit;
  • Communication skills to gain cooperation from clients is required as well as the ability to prepare written and oral reports and
  • Proven leadership / mentoring experience in an operational service delivery environment.
