The Data and Intelligence Branch supports the ACCC and AER in making informed decisions based on data analysis, effective information handling and intelligence methodology. The Branch consists of four teams; the Strategic Data Analysis Unit, the Infocentre, Legal Technology Services and the Intelligence team (relevant to this position).

The Branch has several collaborative functions that support the agency in meeting its strategic objectives, including informing strategic decisions, providing specialist advice, improving data governance and evidence handling, developing tools and sources, driving innovation, collecting and triaging information and optimising the discovery and use of data and information.

The Data and Intelligence Branch sits with the Legal, Economic and Data Division (LEDD), the ACCC/AER’s centralised provider of professional services.

Role and Duties

Duties are to be performed under broad direction and in accordance with the APS Code of Conduct and APS Values to achieve results in line with the corporate mission of the agency.

Duties include:

  • Manage a team of intelligence analysts, build capability, performance and professional development.
  • Supervise and undertake the timely development of high quality intelligence products with clear, concise and well-presented analysis in written or oral form on consumer protection and competition issues
  • Lead, manage and balance a broad range of reactive and proactive intelligence work across the organisation
  • Manage projects and focus resources on supporting strategic objectives
  • Design and develop initiatives, tools or reports to enhance current operations
  • Build strong productive networks to establish avenues of inquiry, data sharing and collaboration opportunities
  • Drive innovation, continuous improvement and contribute to agency change by championing the intelligence work program across the agency
  • Supervise the telecommunications data request function, including assisting with the administration and oversight of ACCC access to other government information sources
