The Royal Flying Doctor Service (Western Operations) has an outstanding history of service and excellence in aero-medical and primary health care across Australia. One of Australia’s most iconic brands, every hour of every day the RFDS is performing lifesaving work across Western Australia.

We have an exciting opportunity for a full-time Aviation Safety and Quality Specialist to join our Safety, Quality and Risk team at our Jandakot base. The ideal candidate will have the ability to operate both in the Safety, Quality and Risk department, as well as liaising closely with the Aviation and Engineering teams. With an eye for detail and a keen interest in continual improvement, you will actively drive the safety culture across the Company by collaborating with personnel at all levels.

About You

  • Formal qualifications in safety, quality and risk management
  • Formal qualifications in aviation
  • Formal qualifications in incident/accident and hazard investigative techniques
  • Broad operational knowledge and experience in aircraft operations, air traffic management, aerodrome operations and aviation maintenance
  • Demonstrated experience in the interpretation and application of Aviation and Safety related legislation and Australian Standards to identify and implement safe work solutions, and promoting a culture focused on safety
  • Demonstrated experience and successful track record in applying safety management principles and practices
  • Proven track record in building and sustaining partnerships, negotiating and influencing at all levels to produce practical outcomes within the legislative and business environment
  • Well-developed analytical and report writing skills
  • Ability to receive clearance for an Aviation Security Identification Card (ASIC)
About The Role
  • Implement, maintain and review the Aviation Safety and Quality Management System
  • Liaise with CASA and the Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB) on safety-related issues as required
  • Triage of all Aviation hazards and incidents and investigating or assigning the appropriate investigation and reporting on outcomes including proposed mitigating actions and completion
  • Compilation and presentation of safety data, results and trend monitoring
  • Collaboration with accountable manager of significant safety issues and significant improvements to company processes and documentation that are recommended
  • Attend and act as secretariat to the Aviation Safety Committee Meetings, including preparation of agendas, presentations, minutes and reporting
  • Maintain and review policies, procedures, manuals, records and other such documentation as required
  • Conduct internal audits, and coordinate and liaise with all CASA and other external audits and auditors as required
