The Role


We are looking for an experienced Medico-legal Risk Manager/ Clinical Underwriter who leads by example and has a genuine passion for achieving results for their team, and for their organisation. 

This is a varied role within a small team working closely with internal and external stakeholders including our Clinical Underwriting Committee, Support in Practice team, Senior Underwriter, the Underwriting Team and Professional Services


Your work will be different every day but in general you will be:

  • Proposing tailored risk mitigation strategies for Members and applicants
  • Engaging with the Clinical Underwriting Committee on High Risk Members and applicants
  • Identifying and managing potential high-risk members and implementing early intervention strategies
  • Conducting case file reviews and meeting with identified high risk members and applicants for the purpose of risk assessment
  • Proposing nonstandard policy terms and conditions or non-renewal recommendations in consultation with the Senior Clinical Underwriter and/or Senior Underwriter.


Skills and Experience


The ideal candidate will have the following:

  • Experience in identifying clinical risks, risk mitigation and/or education (highly desirable)
  • Claims management or Underwriting experience with medical indemnity insurance (highly valued)
  • Understanding of insurance codes and practices along with the insurance regulatory framework is beneficial. 
  • Highly effective communication skills
  • Proactive approach to situations
  • Decision maker
  • Negotiation skills
  • Ability to effectively utilise database and software applications.
