Beacon Legal - Sydney, NSW

JOB DESCRIPTION

Beacon Legal is partnering with a leading global financial services organisation looking to hire a Legal Counsel with an employment law background. This is an excellent opportunity for a private practice employment lawyer looking to transition in-house, or an employment counsel looking for a step up into a senior, autonomous, business facing role.

The Company

The company is one of the world's most recognisable brands in the financial services space, servicing an array of blue-chip corporations across the globe. The company's Asia-Pacific legal team is a high performing unit of top quality lawyers, with sub-specialisations in corporate M&A, disputes, regulatory, commercial and employment law.

Beacon Legal has partnered with this company on numerous hires and placed current members of the in-house legal team. The feedback from those lawyers (on the work, company and team culture) has always been really positive.

The Position

The role would suit an experienced employment lawyer looking for an autonomous, engaging and commercial in-house role. The successful candidate will take the lead on a number of significant employment matters (both advisory and litigious) with direct senior stakeholder engagement. The work will include, but won't be limited to:

  • Providing strategic advice to the business on a range of employment law issues;
  • Drafting, negotiating and reviewing a suite of employment contracts;
  • Identifying and navigating future risks to the company;
  • Interpreting legislation and providing advice to the business accordingly;
  • Advising the company on employment aspects of corporate transactions;
  • Representing the company in relation to various litigious matters, including general protection and unfair dismissal claims;
  • Advising on workplace investigations.

The Requirements

The successful candidate will be an experienced employment lawyer, either in private practice or in-house, with a combination of both front and back-end employment experience. Key criteria includes:

  • Admission as a solicitor in Australia;
  • At least 6 years of experience in employment law, gained from a reputable law firm or a similar in-house role;
  • Experience working in-house in the financial services environment would be highly advantageous;
  • Ability to manage an autonomous role;
  • Experience liaising with, and advising, senior business stakeholders;
  • A proactive, positive and collaborative working style.

If you're interested in this role, please apply or send a copy of your CV to matthew.edwards@beacon-legal.com.au.
