About The Role

BHP’s Performance and Improvement (P&I) Value Analytics is a newly formed team, which is the coming together of a dedicated, innovative group focused on maximising value-adding opportunities across BHP by leveraging skills in the Technical Function to deliver incremental, step change and innovative solutions.

Reporting to the Manager Process Analytics, you will contribute to delivering performance improvement projects that focus on maximising value opportunities and performance across the value chain, through the application of analytics, operational and engineering expertise. You will be part of a global team, working collaboratively alongside other performance and improvement individuals, operations and business subject matter experts, and data professionals.

This is a Brisbane based role working Monday to Friday. Flexible working options are available.

In This Role, You Will

  • Provide mining knowledge to enable and support the team to solve complex problems across the value chain, and to support the delivery of improvement initiatives by working collaboratively within Performance and Improvement team and broadly across the business.
  • Be an Agile Product Owner and will drive initiatives to deliver measurable value to the business, which includes identifying improvement opportunities for the mining process activities across the various planning horizons.
  • Work closely with the delivery team to review compliance to plan, reasons for deviations, and review future plans, designs, schedules and forecasts by seeking to continuously improve both efficiency and value.
  • Analyse process capability assumptions and to minimise downtime and delay of operational activities by identifying key enablers.
  • Develop solutions for incremental value in areas such as mine planning, logistics, materials handling, and infrastructure, and communicating these improvement opportunities.


About You
  • The successful candidate will be able to work within a team environment, and will possess strong problem solving skills, a collaborative mindset and a focus on delivering value. In addition to a demonstrated ability to consolidate and analyse information, you will have mining technical knowledge and skills to provide critical thinking, clear decision-making and have a solution-focused attitude.
  • Familiar with various mining methods, mining practices and associated mine planning processes. Mining engineering knowledge in areas such as mine design, planning, scheduling and optimisation of processes such as truck and shovel, haulage, and drill and blast will be highly regarded.
  • Understand business drivers with experience in improvement and analysing process capabilities to minimise lost opportunities.
  • Strong logical planning, project management, communication, interpersonal and stakeholder management skills with demonstrated practical problem solving, and well-developed, interpretive and constructive thinking skills.
  • Agile and Product Owner experience will be highly regarded.
  • Experience in managing and implementing improvement initiatives and application of the theory of constraints will be highly regarded.
  • Tertiary education in mining engineering or a closely related field. Operational mining experience is highly desirable.
