Here at Anglo American understanding the geological setting of our Metallurgical Coal’s operations is key to delivering an integrated Geoscience solution that encompasses exploration, geological modelling and operational geology.
We currently have three defined mining complexes which operate in the Northern, Central and Southern regions of the Bowen Basin which encompass our two Opencuts (Dawson/Capcoal) and four Underground longwall (Moranbah North, Grosvenor, Grasstree and Aquila) operations currently producing up to 25Mtpa of predominately metallurgical coal for export. Anglo American also holds a number of highly prospective coal tenures and projects throughout the Bowen Basin which are managed within the relevant complex.

Job Description
-Reporting to the Geoscience Governance & Technical Manager, you will deliver a step change in planning and reconciliation performance, through benchmarking operational and business performance across Met Coal.
In this key role you will develop, maintain and audit Geoscience governance and reconciliation systems and processes to improve and sustain geoscience knowledge and reconciliation across the operating sites, to ensure the key mine value chain risks and opportunities are managed appropriately. Critical to the success of this role will be high level collaboration across geological, geotechnical, mine planning and marketing functions.
This role will be rewarding, varied and you will be required to:

  • Identify and implement Geoscience programmes and technical expertise to reduce risks associated strata at Met Coal operations
  • Develop, maintain and audit the “Geological Operations Management System” (OMS) and processes that govern exploration planning, modelling, operational planning, operational control and reconciliation
  • Develop and implement fit for purpose spatial and temporal reconciliation processes across mine value chain
  • Analysis of geoscientific data / knowledge used in business / operational planning and communicating risks to key stakeholders
  • Monitoring of model and operational performance through governance process and spatial / temporal reconciliation.
  • Implement Geoscience systems and processes with appropriate capabilities to deliver improved geological integration and reconciliation performance in operations.
  • Conduct cross value chain review of key inputs and outputs of business planning (MOP/BP) processes, ensuring latest geological data, models and planning assumptions are used appropriately in planning processes.
  • Ensure key geological, geotechnical, mining, processing and marketing risks and opportunities are identified, quantified, and communicated as part of MOP/BP plans.

Qualifications
-You will have an unwavering commitment to safe working practices in accordance with Queensland legislation, recognised standards, corporate values and strategies.
Key to your success in this role will be your:

  • Extensive experience in working in underground and opencut coal operations or other areas of coal Geoscience
  • Expert knowledge of coal geology including key components of geoscience data and relevant aspects of strata, gas and coal quality management
  • Experience in managing geoscience data and databases with a variety of platforms
  • Ability to synthesise a variety geological and geophysical and operational inputs
  • Experience in GIS, geological modelling and CAD packages
  • Relevant Degree in Geosciences or related discipline
