JOB DESCRIPTION

At School Infrastructure NSW (SINSW) we aim to deliver the very best school infrastructure to meet the needs of a growing population, and ensure every school-aged child has access to high quality education facilities at their local school.

Join a small media team at SINSW and deliver media services and opportunities to support the largest investment in new and upgraded schools in the history of NSW.

Temporary position up to 31 December 2021 with a possibility of an extension

Part time 3 days per week

About School Infrastructure NSW

School Infrastructure NSW (SINSW) is delivering new school buildings, major upgrades and maintenance strategies to ensure every school-aged child has access to high quality education facilities at their local public school. This encompasses the largest investment in public education infrastructure in the history of NSW.

About the team

The communications team at SINSW is comprised of the Community Engagement Team, Media Team, Content Team, and Campaigns and Digital Communications Team.

Each team plays a vital role in ensuring that SINSW and community stakeholders are included and informed, by acting as the conduit of information between school communities, local communities, special interest groups, peak bodies, private sector, government departments and the NSW Department of Education.

About the role

As Media Manager, you will prepare and deliver high quality media releases to promote the school building program via the appropriate stakeholders and media channels. You will contribute to an ongoing pipeline of proactive media opportunities to support SINSW delivery of work and broader department initiatives. Deliver advice and services to members of the media and timely response to their enquiries, coordinating tasks and managing deadlines to ensure timely and accurate reporting of SINSW issues in the media. You are expected to anticipate, prepare for and implement media responses to crisis situations, or other situations where there is risk of damage to reputation or ongoing implementation of SINSW projects

KEY KNOWLEGE AND EXPERIENCE

Knowledge of and commitment to implementing the Department’s Aboriginal Education Policy and upholding the Department’s Partnership Agreement with the NSW AECG and to ensure quality outcomes for Aboriginal people.

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS

Tertiary qualification in communications or a related discipline and/or equivalent experience within media or public relations.

Experience as a journalist or media advisor in a government department, minister's office or similar.

Ability to travel to outer suburban and regional locations, and work outside of core business hours in the evening and on weekends, as required.
