As one of a handful of Australian higher education institutions with a global network of campuses spanning four countries, the University of Wollongong is seizing the opportunity to take a renewed global approach to international student recruitment under a framework managed by its wholly owned subsidiary, UOW Global Enterprises. This new approach will see UOW leveraging its global campus footprint, breadth of human resources and agent network to undertake student recruitment for UOW Australia and UOW's international campuses closer to target markets.

The new Global Student Recruitment Framework's establishment is seeing new agreements reached with international agents, new systems established, and recruitment staff appointed to offshore hubs in Dubai, Hong Kong, and Malaysia - physically close and responsive to future students throughout the student recruitment life-cycle. They will work along-side a team based at UOW Global Enterprises headquarters in Australia.

UOW's new approach to international student recruitment will enhance its operations by:

  • Having student recruitment teams closer and more deeply connected to target markets and their influencers, enabling greater responsiveness to cultural, political and social developments.
  • Enabling a cohesive strategy to promote UOW's offerings to a wider variety of students with different desired study destinations and post-study aspirations.
  • Facilitating strategic positioning and brand alignment of UOW's offerings while also allowing for regional context.
  • Enabling UOW Global Enterprises to leverage the University's established network of influencers and agents to recruit to all campuses.

It is within this context that an exciting opportunity exists for a Director of Global Student Recruitment Partnerships to lead the team based at UOW Global Enterprises headquarters in Australia. This position strategically directs and manages the UOW and UOW College Global network of partnerships; primarily international recruitment agents, and also pipeline English/Academic pathway partnerships. The position also supports and collaborates with the Pro Vice Chancellor Global and the UOW Global Strategy Portfolio to facilitate the recruitment functions of academic Credit Transfer Agreement partnerships where commercial/student recruitment functions are present. The position provides leadership to the team managing international student recruitment outcomes for students recruited to all Australian UOW Campuses, pertaining to the Australian onshore international market and Asia-Pacific/New Zealand region.

The UOW Global Student Recruitment Framework is in its implementation phase and the Director Global Recruitment Partnerships will be contributing strategically and operationally to its successful rollout. This includes contributing to the capability building of the offshore recruitment teams.

The position of Director Global Recruitment Partnerships provides an opportunity for the successful individual to positively influence the establishment of a truly global approach to international student recruitment.

Selection Criteria


  • Relevant Bachelor's degree coupled with relevant post degree experience and / or professional training.
  • Experience in strategic management, development and review of a global education agent network.
  • Demonstrated experience and ability to perform to achieve student recruitment targets in highly competitive business environments.
  • Experience in procuring, developing and nurturing Credit Transfer and English and Academic pathway agreements onshore in Australia and offshore, by working strategically with partners, agents, academics, admissions and marketing units.
  • A high-level aptitude for analysing, interpreting, reporting and making strategic management and resourcing decisions based on financial and other performance data.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyse research data and write recruitment and marketing strategies for the tertiary education sector, and to evaluate and review/report on their effectiveness.
  • Excellent communication skills with a demonstrated ability to engage, develop and maintain critical relationships with internal and external stakeholders at all levels.
  • Demonstrated supervisory or management experience, and experience in managing staff in an environment with an outcomes-focussed approach.
  • Proven ability to recognise and initiate solutions to problems quickly and effectively.
  • Ability to understand market needs and drive organisational priorities to ensure best practice partner service is delivered to our agent and institutional partner network.


  • A track record of successful engagement with key education sponsoring bodies, foreign government embassies and cultural attaches, in an international student recruitment context.
