We currently have a position available for a Parks and Recreation Planning and Design Coordinator. This position will be located within Council’s Parks and Recreation Planning Department, part of the wider Infrastructure Planning Directorate. The team is responsible for the planning and design of Council’s open space estate including Urban Design, Sports and Recreation Planning and core Landscape Architectural services. Projects range from local play parks to management of natural areas, waterway rehabilitation, civic spaces, foreshores, sports facilities and outdoor recreation activities through to regional scale parklands.


About our opportunity

As a senior leader within the Parks and Recreation Planning department, you will lead a team responsible for planning and design services for the strategic and master planning of current and future open space land and infrastructure to meet the requirements of the community within the Moreton Bay Regional area.


Reporting to the Parks and Recreation Planning Manager, in this role you will be responsible for:

  • Coordinating the programming and scheduling of open space programs and projects
  • Providing technical expertise into the preparation and implementation of multi-year landscape design and investigation programs
  • Reporting and analytics on department performance across multi-year programs and open space development projects
  • Building strong internal and external relationships to be able to deliver agreed service standards
  • Leading, coaching and mentoring team leaders to be able to drive high performance, collaboration and continuous improvement and customer focussed outcomes within their business units


About you

  • Substantial experience in the delivery of contemporary park, open space and recreation projects
  • Demonstrated experience leading a team of multidisciplinary planners and designers
  • Knowledge of local, state and federal government legislation
  • Experience in the preparation of project initiation documents, multi-year budgets, technical reports and project feasibility assessments
  • High level communication, negotiation and interpersonal skills to meet the needs of a range of stakeholders


Additionally you will have:

  • A degree in Design (Landscape Architecture) including eligibility for registration (RLA) by the Australian Institute of landscape Architects
  • General Induction Licence (White Card)
  • Current C Class driver’s licence


Role Details

Term: Permanent Full time

Location: Strathpine

Package: $122,169 + 10% allowance (allowance in recognition of any additional overtime, external market remuneration conditions and Council’s operational requirements of this position) up to 12% superannuation + leave loading

Award/Level: Qld Local Government Industry Award (Stream A) - Level 8 of the Moreton Bay Regional Council EBA4 Certified Agreement


Work Location

Please note that whilst the current work location for this position is specified above, staff may be required to transfer to any of council's work locations with notice. Council currently has administration offices located at Caboolture, Strathpine and Redcliffe as well as depots, libraries and a range of other facilities located throughout the region.
