The Opportunity

Under the direction of the Director of Business Operations and CFO, the Head of IT provides the technology vision and leadership to the IT team and The Australian Ballet team overall.

The position is responsible for managing the implementation and application of all technology programs and initiatives to support the delivery of business deliverables. 

The role will be responsible for five direct reports.

Key responsibilities of this role include:

  • Monitor emerging technologies, their implications, and potential application to The Australian Ballet and Orchestra Victoria, and keep the Executive Team appraised of these developments.
  • Assess and anticipate technology projects and recommend appropriate action and resources.
  • Lead change management practices to embed and ensure business benefits realisation.
  • Manage the realisation of potential of key business applications across multiple departments i.e. Tessitura, TechOne.
  • Translate and articulate business goals into technology initiatives.
  • Make recommendations as to The Australian Ballet and Orchestra Victoria's long-term system’s needs or service portfolio (equipment, hardware and software applications) to accomplish the business objectives and to maintain competitiveness.
  • Develop proactive initiatives to identify user needs and resolve problems across all departments.
  • Responsible for the overall architecture, performance and security of the Company’s IT environment.
  • Manage system development and support activities to meet user needs in a timely and cost-effective manner.
  • Manage and track the progress of multiple development projects including resource planning and control, writing status reports, and preparing annual budgets.
  • Manages the day-to-day operations of the IT department including managing Employees who support administrative computing, networking, user applications, web development, help desk and other information technology functions.


Key Desired Skills and Experience

  • Tertiary qualification in Information Technology or similar.
  • Significant experience in the computer and Information Technology field, and five years’ minimum management experience in Information Technology field.
  • Demonstrated effective and collaborative leadership style to manage organisational and technological change. 
  • Demonstrated successful leadership in supervising and managing organisations and staff including project management; strategic and tactical planning; budget preparation and execution and development of policy procedures and standards. and business 
  • Demonstrated ability to identify, track and report information technology infrastructure performance and effectiveness metrics. 
  • Experience with the selection and implementation of a Martech or a customer data platform would be highly regarded.
  • Strong customer focus, recognising both internal and external customers.


The position is Melbourne based.
