As part of wider People & Culture team the OHS, Safety & Compliance Officer is responsible for supporting the Risk and Compliance Manager to carry out, maintain and monitor internal occupational health and safety (OHS) program and the wide range of risk and compliance obligations, processes and systems across the organisation.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Support the Risk and Compliance Manager in development of OHS Culture of risk awareness, health, safety and wellbeing.
  • Ensure the OHS, risk and compliance frameworks are carried out consistently across all teams & stakeholder groups.
  • Maintain up to date knowledge of Australian and Victorian OHS legislation.
  • Attend all OHS Committee meetings, contribute actively by providing specialist OHS advice.
  • Ensure staff and senior management are adequately trained with regards to the proactive and reactive management of OHS matters.
  • Maintain the hazard risk register, produce risk assessments to a high quality, and implement and monitor control initiatives.
  • Prepare effective and high-quality risk/compliance reports as required.
  • Act as the lead administrator of the internal compliance system, maintaining expert-level knowledge of the system.

Profile

  • Tertiary qualification(s) in OHS or similar.
  • Current Victorian Working with Children Check.
  • Excellent knowledge of Victorian OHS legislation and best practice.
  • A sound understanding of the education sector, and the risks and hazards associated with school settings will be an advantage.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to think critically.
  • Excellent organisational, planning and time-management skills.
  • Advanced MS Office skills, specifically Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • High level of trust, integrity and work ethic
  • Professional and diplomatic approach to work.
