Division Responsibilities

The Benefits Integrity and Digital Health Division (BIDHD) is responsible for:

  • Maintaining the affordability of medical services in Australia by protecting the

integrity of Medicare and Pharmaceutical Benefit Scheme (PBS) payments.

  • Supporting healthcare providers through delivery of education and information on

appropriate use of Medicare, PBS and digitally enabled programs to support clinical

care and Health payments.

  • Designing consumer/patient centred digitally enabled programs across Health and

with key government partners.

  • Leading Health’s relationship with Services Australia to improve the delivery of

Health and Aged Care policy, program and compliance objectives of Government.

  • Supporting and developing our people to achieve the objective of the division in a

safe and inclusive working environment. We have geographically dispersed teams in

Canberra, Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne, Hobart, Adelaide and Perth.

Branch Responsibilities

The Provider Support and Systems Branch contributes to the department's aims of

protecting the integrity of the Medicare system and ensuring communities have reasonable

access to PBS medicines by supporting the Division through maintenance and enhancement

of its ICT, data analytics, reporting and operational systems and capabilities; undertaking

decision reviews and oversighting quality management. Supporting the Medicare service

providers by providing advice on the interpretation of MBS items. Approving suppliers of

Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS) medicines and supporting the Australian Community

Pharmacy Authority. Ensuring that all available legislated powers are applied to the recovery

of debts raised as a result of incorrect Medicare claiming.

Section Responsibilities

The Workforce Strategy & Development Section:

  • Develop solutions that support staff and build the right capability at the right time.
  • Support the growth and development of our culture and leadership by

understanding and analysing workforce and cost data, and engaging with our

workforce.

  • Invest time to support staff career progression and succession planning by creating

development opportunities aligned to our people and business needs.

  • Support our workforce to be flexible and adaptable to change by working with our

leaders to develop good workforce planning practices and processes.

Key Responsibilities

The role is responsible for driving the Division’s cost analysis program as well as managing

the implementation of a cost analysis tool into the Division. You will work closely with the

Workforce Strategy Director to build a strong understanding of work effort and collaborate

with internal and external stakeholders to build strategies which support leaders in

understanding effort and time across work activities. You will help to identify and reduce

duplication, cut red tape and offer practical solutions to meet business outcomes. The

Assistant Director will also assist in shaping the development of a Workforce Development

Strategies that support the division executive and workforce to deliver Divisional outcome

and priorities. You will have a good understanding workforce, cost analysis frameworks, and

have the ability to deliver tailored reports, which will inform the Division. The role will also

need to ensure that the Strategy is responsive to feedback provided from across the

Division, and align with the division’s strategic direction.

Key Capabilities

  • Lead and contribute to the Division’s Workforce Development Strategy and

coordinate implementation of the strategy;

  • Work as part of team delivering workforce and cost analysis solutions that contribute

to the delivery of Divisional business outcomes that inform the Executive.

  • Liaise with a network of stakeholders, both within the division, and externally, to

communicate the Workforce Development Strategy;

  • Anticipate and establish priorities, monitor progress and work to deliver required

outcomes to a high standard in a timely manner;

  • Contribute toward divisional culture including demonstrating the respect charter;
  • Encourage and motivate continuous learning within the section, empower staff by

delegating tasks, and provide clear direction and constructive feedback;

  • Liaise with a network of stakeholders, within the department, the division, and

externally;
