Our Queensland Metals business operates multiple mining operations and processing plants, plus port and logistics operations. Currently we are offering the opportunity for a Mining Engineer to join the Mining Execution Team at our Mount Isa Copper Operations located at Mount Isa.

This role is designed for the engineer who likes to be close to the action and see the results of their decisions first hand. In this fast paced role you will report to the Principal - Mining where your primary function will be to translate the plans into real time schedules. For you, it is an excellent opportunity to expand your horizons , develop your rapport with operations and work in a tier one asset. For us, you will play a crucial part in putting an effective operational plan into action.

Since obtaining your degree you have gained experience in either Technical Services or Operations. Having exposure to scheduling software would be good, but we are willing to train the right candidate if required. More importantly is your understanding of underground hard rock mining and the keys to driving success: Safety, good planning and consistent execution of that plan.

Combined with your knowledge of underground mining will be good communication skills, as you will be responsible for explaining to a wide audience your schedule for execution by the Operations Team. You will be well supported by a large and experienced group of operations and technical specialists robustly sharing knowledge and ideas to get the best outcomes.

To do that we expect you will:

  • Be degree qualified in the field of Mining or Geoscience
  • Have a minimum of 2 years working in an underground hard rock mining environment
  • Understand operational sequencing of activities.
  • Demonstrate teamwork, strong communication skills, practical problem-solving skills, analytical and scheduling skills.
  • Take pride in your work with a high degree of accuracy and good time management skills.

This exciting role is either residentially based in Mount Isa or potentially FIFO (Brisbane, Cairns, Townsville).
