PTA Level 5 $99,164 pa (plus 9.50% super)

About the Role:

Reporting to the Assistant Chief Fire Officer, the District Business Manager will be responsible for leading the provision of business management functions for the District. You will actively develop and sustain internal and external partnerships and provide advice and direction to all stakeholders on key business functions within the district. You will work closely with the Regional Business Manager and other District Business Managers within the North East Region to ensure consistent development and implementation of initiatives and processes across districts. As a member of the District Leadership Team, you will provide advice on a range of complex issues and contribute to the strategic and business planning for the District.

You will also manage and lead the District Support Team to achieve high level customer support and corporate outcomes and build strong partnerships and relationships across CFA business units, sector partners, and external stakeholders. Further, detailed responsibilities will include:

  • Manage, lead and develop District support staff, including staff performance and development, to ensure the seamless coordination and completion of activities, processes and workflows, in accordance with policy to ensure agreed outcomes are delivered and aligned with District Business Plans.
  • Ensuring the provision of high-quality customer service delivery and business continuity to the public and stakeholders, including understanding CFA legislation, policy and procedures and providing appropriate high-level advice.
  • Leading and coordinating the development and preparation of accurate and high-quality meeting or issue papers, to ensure the timeliness, quality and accuracy of all papers and information provided.
    Preparing, researching and presenting detailed, comprehensive reports and recommendations regarding District business matters by applying critical thinking and complex problem-solving skills.

About You:

To succeed in this key role, you will possess strong leadership, management, commercial, finance and planning skills and experience and ideally hold tertiary qualifications in business administration, management or a relevant discipline.


You will have extensive experience in business administration/ office management, including experience in managing business support services & resources, and demonstrated experience in the management of business plans and budgets including risk and risk management. You will also have a proven ability to lead, manage and develop a high performing team and a strong team environment.

Further requirements include:

  • Demonstrated problem solving skills with the ability to think laterally and significant experience in the resolution of complex issues.
  • Highly developed interpersonal, written and verbal communications skills including the ability to build and maintain effective partnerships with a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Highly developed organisational skills within a complex environment together with demonstrated skills in establishing priorities and meeting strict timelines.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and manage business systems and processes to enhance service delivery capability and outcomes.
