The Senior Policy Officer is part of the Energy Demand, Programs and Safety Division. The Division brings together energy related program delivery expertise and develops and implements policy with respect to energy efficiency, safety and emergency management.

The Senior Policy Officer draws on multiple sources to provide responsive, authoritative advice to Ministers and other senior officials on matters of energy reliability, security and strategic preparation for energy emergencies. As part of the team's responsibilities, the Senior Policy Officer also supports Victoria's energy critical infrastructure to meet obligations under the Emergency Management Act 2013, with a view to improving sector resilience and preparedness through an annual work program.

The role requires strong policy and problem-solving capabilities with a focus on outcomes and delivery. The role also requires the ability to manage complexity and apply analytical ability to a variety of information to identify opportunities and/or issues.

Specialist/Technical Expertise/Qualifications

  • A tertiary qualification in science, engineering, law, economics, public policy, natural resource or environmental management, business management or similar (desirable).
  • A sound understanding of and experience in the public sector, including knowledge and experience with the structure of government and its regulatory and policy decision-making processes (desirable).
  • Demonstrated understanding of current energy policy, national energy market frameworks and the Victorian electricity and gas markets (desirable).

This is a fixed term position available for a period of 12 months.
