An opportunity exists for a Paratechnical Urban Planner (Band 4) to join Development Services in a temporary role up to June 2022.

The position of Paratechnical Urban Planner is required to work in a high-volume and fast paced work area in line with legislation, Council policies and procedures to support the assessment of medium to high risk development applications; conduct assessment of low risk development applications and siting variation applications; calculate infrastructure charges and application fees; and, provide planning advice to customers.

The successful candidate will need to be able to positively engage with staff on all levels, communicate clearly and constructively, set appropriate working standards and lead by example.

This is an excellent opportunity to demonstrate technical, problem solving and customer focus capabilities and to be successful in the role you will need to demonstrate:

  • high-level proficiency in commonly used computer systems and software;
  • experience in applying the principles of planning and relevant legislation, along with an understanding of Council’s policies and processes;
  • experience in assessing low development applications and/or siting variation applications in a complex, legislated environment;
  • experience in providing high quality customer service to develop and maintain internal and external working relationships;
  • good interpersonal skills, including demonstrated ability to deliver written and oral communication to both internal and external customers;
  • high level proficiency in commonly used computer systems and software; and
  • the ability to contribute to team direction, give and receive feedback to achieve agreed performance standards in order to contribute to a culture of performance excellence.

Applicants with a formal qualification in Diploma of Local Government (Planning) or related discipline would be highly regarded.
