  • CSIRO Energy is seeking a motivated Energy Data Scientist to join the Data Science Team. In this diverse role, you will be responsible for the application of data science, analytics and machine learning techniques for energy sector data. You will design and implement data science solutions for various external and internal clients and work with stakeholders to build, validate, improve and represent data science models such as classification, deep learning, and forecasting models.

    As the successful candidate, you will have experience with developing software solutions to data science problems for industry, and are able to develop software workflows throughout various stages of the data cycle, such as data capture, and preparation, through to learning, analytics, and visualisation. You will also be familiar with collaborative code management tools such as git and version control.

    This role is offered on a full-time or part-time basis (minimum 4 days/week).

    Your duties will include:
  • Designing and managing the implementation of data science solutions.
  • Selecting the right tools and visualisations to analyse and present various datasets on the back of in-depth stakeholder engagement.
  • Supporting through good software engineering practices continuous development of advanced analytics and machine learning tools for data forecasting.
  • Implementing statistical and machine learning models to turn raw data into energy domain and business insights.
  • Making significant contributions to the interpretation and communication of research or technological results.

    Salary: AU$85k - AU$96k (pro-rata for part-time) plus up to 15.4% superannuation

    To be considered you will need:
  • A relevant bachelor's degree or equivalent relevant work experience in statistics, machine learning, software engineering, computer science, data science, mathematics, or other engineering.
  • Sound experience in the application of data science/analysis work in a commercial/industrial environment.
  • The ability to write version-controlled research code using data science languages such as R or Python.
  • Basic software engineering experience (i.e. coding beyond scripting) and the ability to build on and extend code developed by others.
  • Hands on experience in at least three of the following areas: deep learning, clustering, classification, time series analytics, data management, data visualisation tools, and other tools such as Spark or Shiny.
  • The ability to present data in a range of formats (e.g. reports, presentations, dashboards etc).
  • A history of working collaboratively as part of a multi-disciplinary team and carrying out tasks successfully in support of project goals.
