Bunbury Senior High School (SHS), 2019 Secondary School of the Year; is seeking to appoint a highly focused and enthusiastic individual to lead their Science team.

This position requires an outstanding leader who can inspire staff and contribute to the school's strategic and operational plans. In collaboration with the Principal, members of the Executive and Leadership Team, the Program Coordinator (PC) - Science will provide educational leadership in the school and the community by developing and promoting the school vision and encouraging school staff to share in the school's strategic targets. We value the linking of learning with real world experiences and the currency students can take into pathways beyond school. We are seeking someone with leadership of Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) initiatives to engage and prepare students for future career pathways.

The successful applicant will have well-developed team leadership skills to build a cohesive team that will be able to deliver a rigorous Science curriculum, including an appropriately differentiated curriculum for the Department's Gifted and Talented Academic Program hosted at the school. An excellent understanding of data analysis and skills in evidence-based planning to improve student learning programs and results is considered essential. The successful applicant's management and interpersonal skills will be outstanding and focussed on excellence in teaching and learning through ongoing staff development. As the PC - Science they will provide an active leadership role in the implementation of a positive and caring learning environment across the school. This will include providing help to promote the resiliency of students and nurture their social and emotional well-being, facilitating problem-solving mechanisms involving student welfare and modelling exemplary classroom practice.

Our school was established in 1918 and is built on an impressive site on one of the city of Bunbury's highest points, Boulter's Heights. It is the fourth oldest government school in the state; thus is entrenched in history and has very loyal and strong support from a large and diverse group of former students, parents and staff.

This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.

To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements:

  • Capacity to provide effective leadership in a diverse range of educational settings;
  • High level of interpersonal and public relations skills that demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships to achieve planned outcomes;
  • Professional knowledge and the ability to apply this knowledge to ensure a high level of educational outcomes for all students (e.g. Aboriginal students, students from diverse ethnic backgrounds and students with special needs).
  • Capacity to manage physical and financial resources.

Employees will be required to:

  • hold a recognised qualification in teaching and be currently registered or eligible for registration to teach in Western Australia;
  • obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment; and
  • obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check.


Employees will be required to:

  • complete the Department's induction program within three months of commencement;
  • complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy; and
  • complete the Department's training in Accountability and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.

The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
